The flagship of the PROTECT range — an ultra-dense, intelligent RAID array delivering up to 1.3PB per enclosure with self-healing data protection, built for maximum capacity at low TCO.
The Exos EP5U84 is the largest RAID array in the PROTECT family — the same 84-bay, 5U chassis shared with our EX5U84 SCALE and AP5U84 FUSE products, but fitted with dual redundant RAID controllers that handle data protection and management directly on the array. It's built specifically for high-capacity, transaction-dependent environments that need tighter SLA requirements and faster response times than a passive JBOD can offer on its own.
Two hot-swappable Seagate 4006 VELOSCT controllers drive the array, giving it both the processing power and the redundancy needed to sustain enterprise workloads without a single point of failure.
The EP5U84's case is maximum capacity with genuine data protection built in: up to 1.3PB in a single enclosure, with Seagate ADAPT handling intelligent, distributed drive rebuilds rather than the slower single-spare rebuild model of conventional RAID. Combined with a 99.999% availability design, parallel architecture and multi-path support, it's built to keep data accessible even during a rebuild or maintenance event.
A genuinely useful detail: when 84 bays isn't enough, the EP5U84 expands using our own EX5U84 SCALE enclosures — up to 336 drives total across the chain — meaning the array's own controllers keep managing RAID protection across a much larger pool than the base chassis alone.
The same drawer-style chassis, hot-swappable components and drive-count rules as its SCALE and FUSE siblings apply here too: quantities in multiples of 14, and a maximum of two drive sizes per system.
