The Exos AP2U12 sits alongside the AP2U24 in the FUSE family — an integrated storage server with dual x86 compute nodes built into the same chassis as the storage itself, rather than a passive JBOD requiring a separate host. Where the AP2U24 favours 2.5" drive density, the AP2U12 uses 12 larger-format 3.5" bays (also compatible with 2.5" drives via a conversion carrier), prioritising capacity per drive over raw drive count.
It's built as a genuinely space-saving, all-in-one platform — a full compute-plus-storage building block that fits in a single 2U rack position, aimed at organisations building out a private cloud or consolidated storage platform without a large physical footprint.
The AP2U12's case is capacity efficiency in a compact footprint: 12 large-format drives plus dual server-grade compute nodes in a single 2U position, with up to 216TB addressable in that one chassis using current high-capacity drives. As with the AP2U24, you can right-size the compute — 8, 12 or 16-core AMD EPYC options — to match your actual workload rather than over-specifying.
A genuinely useful detail: the AP2U12 expands using Seagate's Exos E 2U12 and E 2U24 enclosures — the same JBOD expansion units behind our own EX2U12 and EX2U24 SCALE products — up to 8 chassis in a single deployment. That means you can start with a self-contained AP2U12 and grow raw capacity later using the SCALE range, without changing platform or vendor.
Dedicated management ports, hot-swappable power and cooling, and a maximum of two drive sizes per system for configuration consistency round out a platform built for straightforward, predictable operation.
